Congress has adjourned for the holidays without a vote on this legislation, but are sure to revisit it in the next session. One of the onerous elements of the law creates a “private right of action” that would allow anyoney, without a court being involved, to effectively shut down a website. You can imagine a number of scenarios - whistleblowers being shut down, or a successful political ad in the days before an election being shut down by opponents.

I used to assume that the revered members of our legislature must be smart people. Now I'm sure that's not the case.

It's going to be difficult to sanction other countries for their human rights offenses when we can't even stick to the First Amendment. It appalls me that this debate has taken up so much of Congress' time when the hypocrisy is so obvious.

There is a lot of brain power represented in the signatures of the open letter. Let's pray that intelligence will prevail.

We engaged several focus groups when RockitWeb was in the development stage, and found that with the free sitebuilders that users would invest a great deal of time with less than stellar results. The most common stumbling block however was content. Many entrepreneurs think they can write effectively, but when it comes down to it delays in website go-lives with Bleeding Edge often are the result of content not being done in a timely manner by folks that thought they could write copy.

Yes and yes! The only thing you can do that we are aware of is being vigilant. If someone has done a copy - paste of your copyrighted material, send them a cease and desist letter giving them a week to remove the plagiarized content. If they refuse to remove it, you can initiate legal action but that would incur a cost. So it boils down to a cost benefit analysis for you. Any legal scholars out there with any input?

With havin so much content do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright violation? My site has a lot of completely unique content I've either written myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my agreement. Do you know any methods to help protect against content from being ripped off? I'd really appreciate it.
